This is the LJ for the band I DiGRESS, which is based out of Coral Springs, Florida. We will use this as a way to look into the band from the inside persepctive, on a more day to day basis. Often, you only get snippets or general ideas of what happens in a group...here we will attempt to bring you into our world.
I DiGRESS's full length studio album JUSTICE is available for purchase NOW!!! It features the tracks on this website plus 8 more with the same quality and rockin-ness! Please go to www.idigresstheband.com for more details, or message us here on LiveJournal!! \m/
I DiGRESS was founded in the winter of 1997 in Ocala, Florida. The idea was to have a heavy sound with a melodic edge from the very beginning, with singer/songwriter Carol Roberts and founding member John D'Angelo on guitar writing songs and lyrics in their highschool cafeteria. Since then the group has moved to South Florida, where the line-up is now the strongest it's ever been, and is a continuation of the founding ideal.
The song writing process is fun and filled with ideas, creating a mix of modern and vintage sound including the soothing and sometimes seething vocals of the beautiful and talented Sheyenne Rivers. Bassist Mark Caldwell and drummer Matthew Barrios bring a wide variety of influence to the rhythm and heart of the songs, while composers D'Angelo and lead guitarist Jeff Cunningham let the music rise and fall with appropriate, modern and un-conventional compositions. The release of our full length CD entitled "Justice" is testimony to the work each member has contributed to a greater whole.
Since Ocala the road has been long and arduous, but not without reward: I DiGRESS is sponsored by the Budweiser True Music program in West Palm Beach and Broward County, has been featured in advertisements on Clear Channel stations 94.9 Zeta, Wild 95.5 and more, and has been featured on E! Entertainment. I DiGRESS opened for national recording artist Michelle Branch at Sunfest 2004 in West Palm Beach, was covered by Channel 12 news for our fund raising drive for hurricane victims with the Red Cross, has been in Rag Magazine, Beach Magazine, the New Times Miami and more. I DiGRESS has played in venues such as Mangos on Las Olas, Mr. Moes in CoConut Grove, Tarpon Bend in Ft. Lauderdale and Weston, The Hard Rock Cafe at the Casino in Hollywood, Blue Martini in West Palm, Club Ovation in Boca Raton, The Factory in Ft. Lauderdale, The Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, LuLu's Baitshack on Ft. Lauderdale Beach and Orlando, and litteraly dozens more in South Florida and the rest of the state. I DiGRESS has proudly accomplished this independently with help from a host of generous and like-minded people, and with our own blood sweat and tears.
Through the personal drama and hectic schedules, the money issues and the stresses of distance, many members have come and gone (13 drummers alone), leaving only the strongest and the most dedicated. It's said that this business, and it is a business, does not reward an impatient mind, and it's been proven true enough.
